March 26: Day 3
But also not Day 3 .. today is Day 12 where I haven't left the house.
This makes me slightly relax as the Virus has an average shelflife of 12.5 days. APPARENTLY. And ACCORDING TO CURRENT DATA.. which as we know, changes every day, or every minute.
At this time in Australia, we can't leave our homes, except for important essential things, like visiting the Doctor ( my dental appointment was cancelled, my husband's aural appt for Tinnitus, cancelled, someone I know had a regular breast screen for cancer, cancelled ) BUT, you can go get a hair cut, which WAS limited to a 30 min session, but that was lifted because, well, essential haircuts take longer than 30 mins. Apparently.
I'd love to get to Bunnings or Ikea for all my "essential" needs and I might be slightly jealous of those that are going out anyway. But I do wish they'd stay in. My last outing was to Chemist Warehouse, where a woman coughed in all the aisles ( which I only noticed that day are so claustrophobic! ) while loudly proclaiming SHE HAD ASTHMA.
I pretended to be cool, but I was freaking out.
Later that night I met with 2 girlfriends for dinner and you know, it was really nice to get out of my batcave and I was grateful. They were dealing with their own big things and the group hug was needed. I was nervous and my husband said GO! and they work in retail so life was normal and I was the only one in the batcave of doom, so I let them lead me and it was delicious. I am grateful.
But later, when the selfie popped up on socials, me with my face pressed to another, smiling, I wondered about Gwyneth Paltrow and my most favourite movie ever since like a week ago CONTAGION ( please don't ask me about Contagion, everyone is sick of me banging on about Contagion, BUT HAVE YOU SEEN CONTAGION? ) .. and thought .. that ..that is the photo everyone will judge me on when it's printed in the paper and i'm labelled as a death spreading maniac.
But truth be told, we are reliant on the advice of others, and the restaurant was open, and desperate for guests, it was clean and delicious and we were happy to support the economy in uncertain times. Our Prime Minister didn't say we could not, and mixed messages abound. I wavered between being the Conspiracy Queen and trying to be a normal human being, which is my life really, but hey.
But i'm Day 12, so if i'm sick, it was not from my last day.
The kids had their last day of school also a week later, which was a relief. The last 2 weeks were fraught - To Send, or Not To Send .. the decision being taken from me was a relief, the doubt removed, the pressure off.
I made a paper crane.

It's a very good crane. The less I go out, the harder it is to go out. Agoraphobia.
